Stravinsky: Symphony of Psalms

One of Stravinsky's most fascinating works.

Igor Stravinsky viewed Psalm 150 as ‘a song to be danced.’ It was a text that contained, as he saw it, ‘verses of exaltation but also of anger and judgment, and even of curses.’ Those ideas lay behind Stravinsky’s Symphony of Psalms, in which voices and instruments are treated as equals. This is one of Stravinsky’s most austere creations but also one of his most powerful and intriguing.
